Web Design & Hosting
for Courtenay & Comox
The Comox Valley is a fast-growing market with a strong small-business community. I'm Michael Perks — Vancouver Island based — and I build and look after websites for Courtenay and Comox businesses with direct, hands-on service. No tickets, no strangers.
Around Courtenay & Comox
The Comox Valley's four-season economy
Courtenay sits at the centre of one of the most complete four-season economies on Vancouver Island. In winter, Mount Washington Alpine Resort — the Island's only ski resort — pulls visitors up the Strathcona Parkway every weekend. In summer, the same families are on the Puntledge River, at Nymph Falls, or walking the Courtenay Riverway. That seasonal rhythm shows up directly in search data: what people look for in the Comox Valley changes month to month, and a website that speaks to those seasons captures traffic a static brochure site never will.
Downtown Courtenay along 5th Street has become a genuine independent-business district — boutiques, restaurants, outdoor stores, and the Comox Valley Art Gallery. The Courtenay & District Museum houses the elasmosaur fossil that made the Puntledge riverbed famous among palaeontologists, and the Saturday Comox Valley Farmers' Market is one of the Island's biggest. Lewis Park and Simms Millennium Park bookend the river through town. Every one of these landmarks generates 'near me' searches, and Google Maps decides which businesses ride along.
The Valley's growth is the other half of the story. Courtenay is consistently among BC's faster-growing small cities, with new neighbourhoods at Crown Isle and The Ridge, North Island College expanding, and a steady stream of new residents arriving from the Lower Mainland and beyond. New residents are the heaviest local searchers there are — they need a dentist, a plumber, a gym, an accountant, and they choose almost entirely from what Google shows them. A business with a strong web presence gets adopted into their routine; an invisible one never gets the chance.
Courtenay also serves as the retail and service hub for the whole Comox Valley — Comox, Cumberland, Royston, Union Bay, Merville, and Black Creek all shop and hire here. Cumberland's mountain-bike network alone brings riders from across the continent who eat, sleep, and shop in the Valley. When I build a Courtenay website, I optimise for that full catchment, with neighbourhood-level keywords and content that reflects how Valley residents and visitors actually search.
The Valley's event calendar is a search-traffic engine of its own. Vancouver Island MusicFest brings thousands to the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds every July, the Sid Williams Theatre keeps a year-round performance schedule on 5th Street, and winter race weekends at Mount Washington fill the valley's restaurants and shops on their way up and down the mountain. The Courtenay Airpark walkway and the Kus-kus-sum estuary restoration are adding to an already walkable riverfront, and the 5th Street Bridge funnels nearly everyone through the downtown core. Every one of those event weekends produces a wave of high-intent searches — 'dinner Courtenay', 'coffee near 5th Street', 'gear rental near me' — and they land on whichever businesses Google trusts most. A properly structured website with accurate local schema is how you become that answer.
I'm based in Duncan and serve the Comox Valley with the same direct, personal approach — custom design, managed hosting, and local SEO built on real knowledge of the mid-Island. See examples of my work, or get in touch and tell me where in the Valley your customers come from.
Courtenay & Comox, BC
A growing market where local search matters.
The Comox Valley is home to a thriving community of independent businesses. Getting found online — especially on mobile, especially locally — is what separates a busy business from a quiet one.
Ranking in Courtenay or Comox is more achievable than in a city like Vancouver. I'll help you optimise your Google Business Profile, target local search terms, and build the right citation presence.
Page speed is a Google ranking factor. Static HTML sites load in under a second, score well on Core Web Vitals, and convert better than slow, plugin-heavy sites.
You get my direct email and phone. When something needs attention, you reach me directly — the person who built your site. No offshore helpdesk, no ticket system.
I keep your site updated, backed up daily, and monitored around the clock. If something goes wrong I'm alerted immediately and working on it before you notice.
