First — what is a static website?

Most websites you see are built on platforms like WordPress, Squarespace, or Wix. These are called "dynamic" sites — every time someone visits, the server runs code, talks to a database, and assembles the page on the fly. That process adds complexity, and complexity creates things that can go wrong: plugin conflicts, database errors, security vulnerabilities, slow load times.

A static website is different. Every page is a plain HTML file — already built, ready to serve. When someone visits your site, the server just delivers the file. There's no database, no PHP, no plugins running in the background. The result: faster load times, a smaller attack surface, and almost nothing to break.

I'm Michael Perks, based in Duncan, BC. Every site I build is custom-coded HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — built specifically for your business, not assembled from a template or a page builder. When someone visits your site, they get the real thing, loading fast, every time.

The short version: Static sites load faster, are more secure, and cost less to maintain. For most small businesses, they're the better choice — and they're what I build.

Why static is better for most small businesses

The honest answer is that most small business websites don't need a CMS. They need a great-looking site that loads fast, shows up on Google, and gets people to pick up the phone. Here's why static delivers that better:

Speed — genuinely fast
Static files serve instantly from the server. No database queries, no server-side code to execute. Sites I build routinely score 90+ on Google's PageSpeed tests. That matters for both user experience and search rankings.
Security — almost nothing to exploit
WordPress sites get hacked because attackers know exactly where the login page is and which plugin vulnerabilities to target. A static site has no login page, no database, no plugins. There's dramatically less to attack.
Reliability — almost never breaks
The most common reason WordPress sites go down is a failed update — a plugin conflicts with the theme, or an update changes something that breaks the layout. Static sites don't have that problem. Once it's built, it just works.
Cost — cheaper to run long-term
Static sites need less server resources, meaning lower hosting costs. And because they require so little ongoing maintenance, the annual Site Care plan is genuinely straightforward — I'm not spending hours a month managing plugin updates.
"But I need to update my own content"
Most of my clients don't update their own sites — they ask me to. Hours are stable, services don't change every week, and when they do need something updated, they send me a message and I handle it. That's actually easier than learning a CMS. If self-editing is important to you, let me know and we can talk through options.

What Site Care actually includes

All three plans include the following as standard. This is what keeps your site alive, fast, and in good shape year-round:

Hosting & SSL
Your site lives on reliable hosting with SSL included and auto-renewed. That's the padlock in the browser address bar — required for both security and Google rankings. I manage it all. You never see a renewal notice.
Daily offsite backups
A complete backup of your site runs every day and is stored offsite — meaning if the server itself ever has a problem, your backup is safe somewhere else. If anything goes wrong, I can restore your site to a recent working state fast.
Uptime monitoring 24/7
Automated monitoring checks your site constantly. If it goes down, I'm alerted immediately — usually before anyone notices. Most issues get resolved before they affect a single visitor.
Performance optimisation
I keep your site tuned for speed — proper caching, compressed assets, efficient delivery. Static sites are already fast by nature, but there's always room to keep things sharp.
Email support direct from Michael
When you have a question, you email me and I reply — personally. Not a helpdesk, not a chatbot, not a ticket that gets assigned to whoever is on shift. Me.

All of that is in every plan. Where the plans differ is response time, what's included for content updates, and how much SEO support you get.

Basic Care — $199/year

Basic Care
Hosting, SSL, backups, monitoring, and email support. Your site stays live and healthy.
$199 CAD / year

Basic Care is the foundation — everything your site needs to stay online, fast, and secure. For businesses with a stable site that doesn't change much, this is genuinely all they need.

Response time: 1 business day
Have a question or notice something? Email me and I'll get back to you within one business day. You're not waiting on hold or bouncing between support agents.
Who this plan is for
A local business with a stable site — trades, restaurants, service businesses, retailers — where the content doesn't change often and you just want it kept secure, backed up, and running. Set it and forget it.

Active Care — $349/year

Priority Care — $549/year

Priority Care
Maximum access, fastest response, quarterly SEO, and first in line — always.
$549 CAD / year

Priority Care is for businesses where the website directly drives revenue and you want the fastest possible response, the most direct access, and consistent SEO attention throughout the year.

Direct phone & text access to Michael
You get my direct number. If something urgent comes up, call or text me. You're not waiting for an email reply to get through — you're reaching me like a colleague.
2-hour response during business hours
Any message during business hours gets a response within two hours. You're at the front of the queue — always.
Quarterly local SEO check-ins
Four SEO reviews per year instead of one. Local search rankings shift as competitors update their sites and Google adjusts its algorithm. Checking in quarterly keeps you ahead of those changes, not reacting to them six months later.
Content & layout fixes included
Small updates — new photos, text changes, layout tweaks, adding a service — are handled as part of the plan. Send me a message and it gets done.
Who this plan is for
A business where the website is critical — bookings, enquiries, local reputation. If downtime or a slow response costs you customers, Priority gives you the fastest access and the most consistent SEO attention. Also the right fit if you're actively pushing to rank higher in local search.

Not sure which one to pick?

Choose Basic Care if your site is stable and you don't change it often. You want it kept secure, backed up, and monitored — without thinking about it. Simple.

Choose Active Care if your website actively brings in business and you want someone keeping an eye on it, handling small updates, and helping you get found in local searches. This is the most popular plan for a reason.

Choose Priority Care if your website is business-critical, you want the fastest possible response when something comes up, and you're serious about local SEO. Four check-ins a year means you're improving consistently, not just hoping things hold steady.

Still not sure? Just ask me. Tell me about your business and your site, and I'll give you an honest recommendation — no hard sell, no upselling for its own sake.

What's not included — and why

One website per plan. Each plan covers a single site. Two separate sites need two separate plans — that's how I give each one proper attention.

No new page builds or redesigns. Site Care covers keeping your existing site running well. If you want to add pages or redesign sections, that's a separate web design engagement — we scope it out and price it accordingly.

No eCommerce. Full online store functionality is outside what I offer. If you need it, I'll point you to someone who specialises in it.

No monthly billing. Annual only — intentionally. It lets me invest properly in your site from day one, and you get a better overall rate.
